Notwithstanding that all employers must risk assess all work activities and then go onto record their findings where significant risk occurs (if they employ more than 5 people). We should also further consider the advantages of engaging with the workforce, either when reviewing these existing tasks, or considering new work activities.
Worker engagement at this level pays great dividends. Where staff have had involvement in planning work activities, especially where their ideas are adopted, they are far more likely to follow any agreed method and fully utilise the controls that are stipulated within the risk assessment.
Go on and give your staff a voice. Listen to their thoughts, concerns and ideas. After all, they are the ones at the point of risk, so allow them some ownership and evolve.
