Our Health and Safety Laws are continually overlooked as needless. However if we look at other standards around the globe of Health and Safety it does not take long to realise that we have the best on the world.
Countries like Bangladesh – on April 24, 2013, 1,100 garments workers perished when the eight-storey Rana Plaza factory collapsed – constructed with sub-standard materials, built on unsuitable land, containing three separate clothing factories, with around 6,000 working in sweatshop conditions, for pitiful wages, and health and safety non-existent.
This collapse followed the Tazreen factory fire in the same district that killed 112 workers five months before.
And it’s why we must never allow any relaxation of our health and safety laws and continue our full support for this country’s courageous fire and rescue service personnel. Yes it can be hard to grasp and yes it may seem a little unreasonable. But that will normally be contributed to because of a lack of understanding.
Just imagine a world that your family and you live in without Health & Safety? Then think if we really need to relax H&S laws again.
