Course Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification. However, learners must have a suitable standard of English language to understand and articulate the concepts contained in the syllabus.

Course Overview

The qualification comprises two units:

Unit FSC1:

• Management of fire safety
• Principles of fire and explosions
• Fire sources and controls
• Fire protection in buildings
• Fire risk assessments

This unit is assessed via an open-book exam completed online.

Unit FSC2:

• Fire risk assessments

This unit is assessed via a practical risk assessment based on a workplace.

Professional Recognition

NEBOSH qualifications are recognised by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM).

Assessment

Unit FSC1:

• The open book examination is completed online via the NEBOSH exam portal and is accessible for 24 hours.
• On average, you should allocate approximately 5 hours to complete the exam.
• Grading for FSC1 is as follows:
  • Pass: 45-64 marks
  • Credit: 65-74 marks
  • Distinction: 75+ marks

Unit FSC2:

• Workplace-based fire risk assessment task
• Completed in a workplace and submitted to BSC via email
• FSC2 is marked either as a pass or refer (fail)

You must pass both units to achieve your full NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety.
