Cracking down on RPE

Recently the HSE has started cracking down on RPE (Respiratory Protective Equipment) and if it is suitable or not for the task it is being used for. So I have now been trained in face fit testing, due to this change.

I will be trying my newly learnt skills out on site next week. This should be an eye opener as most operatives just think one face mask will do for all jobs without even looking at the rating on the side of the box or on the packet they come in.

15 minutes before the test you are not allowed to eat or drink as it can affect the test by changing the senses so I have asked all operatives to not eat before the test. I wonder how many listen?

It’s not every day you get to put a bag on somebodies head and pump sensitive mist in their face in the name of health and safety. I have to do this to about 10 sites in the month of April so it will be interesting to see how people will react to the test; and what RPE is the best quality and if the right RPE is being used for the task.
