Resuscitation Council UK Releases 2025 Updated CPR and First Aid Guidelines

On Monday 27th October 2025, the Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK) published its updated national guidelines on CPR and first aid, setting the new benchmark for life-saving training and practice across the UK.

These updates reflect the latest research and evidence-based best practice in resuscitation, ensuring that both professional responders and trained first aiders are equipped with the most effective techniques to save lives.

You can view the full guidance from the Resuscitation Council UK here:

What the 2025 Update Means for First Aid Training

Every few years, RCUK reviews and updates its guidelines to align with international scientific consensus. The 2025 version includes changes to areas such as:

  • CPR delivery and compression ratios

  • The use of AEDs (defibrillators) in workplace and public settings

  • Recognition of cardiac arrest

  • Management of choking and severe bleeding

  • First aid for specific conditions such as anaphylaxis and stroke

While many fundamentals remain consistent, the new recommendations refine the sequence of actions, timing, and practical techniques to improve survival outcomes and enhance responder confidence.

Lighthouse Safety’s Response

As an approved Qualsafe Awards training provider, Lighthouse Safety delivers nationally recognised first aid qualifications in line with the latest standards, and we’re already taking steps to implement these important updates.

We have begun reviewing and updating all related course materials, including:

  • Qualification specifications and assessment criteria

  • Tutor guidance and lesson plans

  • PowerPoint presentations and e-Learning content

  • Printed manuals and classroom resources

These changes will be fully integrated into all Qualsafe First Aid courses as soon as the awarding body releases its updated materials.

What Does This Mean for Learners and Employers?

For clients currently booked onto a First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid at Work, there’s no need to delay or reschedule your training.

All learners will continue to receive the most accurate and compliant information, and our instructors will incorporate any relevant updates as they are confirmed.

Employers can be confident that every delegate trained by Lighthouse Safety is learning in line with UK-recognised, evidence-based standards.

Stay Informed

We’ll provide further updates as Qualsafe finalises its new specifications and assessment documentation. Once complete, all training materials will be aligned with the 2025 Resuscitation Council guidance.

If you have any questions about your upcoming first aid training or compliance requirements, our team will be happy to help.
