Competent Health and Safety advice is a requirement for all companies within the UK!

Competent Health and Safety advice should come from someone within your company who is relevantly Health and Safety trained (i.e NEBOSH qualified with trade relevant experience as a minimum) or alternatively you should have access to an independent consultancy (such as Lighthouse) to offer advice to you.

This is a requirement of both the Health and safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and the associated Management of Health and Safety Regulations 1999. Failure to have and follow such advice may constitute a breach of Health and Safety law and place your company at the mercy of the Health and Safety Executive. Should an accident occur during your work activities and it is identified that competent advice was not sought or available this would be considered a direct cause in the failure to manage Health and Safety therefore being highlighted as a root cause of the accident leading to potential prosecution.
