About NEBOSH Incident Investigation training

About NEBOSH Incident Investigation training: NEBOSH and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have collaborated to create a comprehensive one-day qualification aimed at demonstrating effective investigation of non-complex incidents. This initiative underscores the importance of learning from incidents and implementing improvements to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

This qualification is suitable for individuals seeking to conduct incident investigations proficiently. It is particularly beneficial for employers, supervisors, SHE champions, as well as union and safety representatives.

What capabilities will I acquire upon completing this qualification?

Upon completion, you will be able to:

  • Independently investigate simple incidents
  • Collect evidence, including conducting witness interviews
  • Formulate an action plan to prevent the recurrence of incidents
  • Contribute to team investigations for larger scale incidents
  • Positively impact the safety culture within your organization

What benefits will my employer derive from this qualification?

Your employer stands to gain:

  • Reduction in repeat incidents through lessons learned
  • Confidence in the robustness of the organization’s investigative approach
  • Enhanced safety culture by fostering a proactive attitude towards incident investigation
  • Development of in-company expertise
  • Adoption of incident investigation practices reflecting industry best standards

What topics does the course cover, and how is it assessed?

The one-day NEBOSH HSE Introduction to Incident Investigation covers the following subjects:

  • Moral, legal, and financial justifications for investigations
  • Human and organizational factors contributing to incidents
  • The process for conducting incident investigations
  • Effective interview strategies and overcoming interview barriers

The course culminates in a practical assessment where participants are provided with an evidence pack and shown a video featuring three witness interviews. The assessment requires reviewing the evidence, evaluating each interview, and producing an action plan aimed at preventing incident recurrence. This ensures a hands-on and practical understanding of the incident investigation process

We regularly run the NEBOSH Introduction to Incident Investigation course at our training facilities in Kent, and London plus we can host the course at clients chosen premises.
