QUALSAFE Level 2 Award Principles in Manual Handling

Course Description

This qualification outlines the reasons for safer manual handling and the legal requirements. Learners will develop an understanding of how risk assessments can improve safety, the theory of safe movement principles and how to reduce the risk of harm.
Note: This qualification is theory based and does not include practical training.

Who Should Attend

This qualification is suitable for all employees to raise their awareness of the risks of unsafe manual handling practices and for people who might have to carry out manual handling as part of their job, e.g. handling deliveries, parcels and boxes.

It is suitable:

• To raise awareness about the importance of safe manual handling

• As an introduction to those starting work which may involve carrying out manual handling activities

• For those returning to work where manual handling activities may be required

Course Content

The QA Level 2 Award in Principles of Manual Handling (QCF) is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification, designed to cover the basic principles of manual handling.

The course covers:

  • Common manual handling injuries
  • Manual handling laws
  • Responsibilities of employers and employees
  • Risk assessments
  • Safe movement principles associated with manual handling, including the body’s:
    • Musculoskeletal system
    • Centre of gravity
    • Lever system
  • Theory of safe manual handling principles, including:
    • Preparing for a lift
    • Solo lifting, carrying and lowering an object
    • Team manual handling
  • Manual handling equipment:
    • Types of manual handling aids and equipment
    • Maintenance and requirements for testing

Assessment & Award

The course assessment is by multiple choice examination paper. Successful candidates will receive the QUALSAFE Level 2 Award in Manual Handling Principles.

Duration

To give you maximum flexibility it can be delivered as a half-day programme.

Cost

Charges are dependent on the number of candidates (minimum of 6), and travel distance, but are based around £95 + VAT per person.

Venue

This course could be run at our training centre in Rainham, Kent but is typically run at client locations throughout the UK.

When booking a QUALSAFE Level 2 Award in Manual Handling – Principles Course you need to feel assured that your training provider is fully accredited to provide that training and is not then going to sub-contract the work.
