Fire Safety for Managers

Course Description

Reflecting the needs of The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, this course provides delegates with the information to develop a fire risk assessment and emergency plan to help create a strong fire strategy in their workplace.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for senior members of site management teams or building managers, namely  persons that are likely to be nominated as the ‘responsible person’ or potentially deputise for the ‘responsible person’ and those who have been nominated by their employer as either the ‘responsible person’ or the ‘competent person’ and hence who will be responsible for carrying out fire risk assessments at their premises or on construction sites. Ideally candidates should be aware of their own company fire risk assessment process.

Course Content

The course content has been listed below; however the trainer will be able to adapt the style and approach of the course to suit the needs of the student.

  • How fire starts and spreads
  • The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
  • How to stop fire occurring & general fire precautions
  • Reducing ignition sources
  • Emergency procedures
  • Liaison with emergency services
  • Fire protection
  • Portable fire extinguishers
  • Security against arson
  • Role of the fire wardens
  • Electricity and gas
  • Hot works
  • Waste materials
  • Smoking policy
  • Fire protection association DVD – fire risk assessment
  • Development of the fire risk assessment & emergency plan
  • Fire strategy

Assessment & Award

Candidates will be assessed throughout the course and by completing a post-course exercise. Successful candidates will be awarded certification which will detail the syllabus covered and that an appropriate standard has been achieved.


This is a one day event running from 8.30 am to 5 pm, supplemented with a post-course exercise (fire risk assessment based exercise) which must be returned to our offices within a two week time frame.


Typical fees for open courses are £175 + VAT; however this can vary for in-house courses (dependant on location and numbers).


This course is usually run at our clients location but can be run at our training centre in Rainham, Kent
