SSSTS (Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme)

Course Description

The Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) develops supervisory skills of construction site ganger / foremen, to ensure that adequate control measures, communication and monitoring of the workforce occurs.

Who Should Attend

SSSTS is designed for first line managers, foremen, gangers, team leaders and supervisors – i.e. those who have, or are about to acquire, supervisory responsibilities and need to understand their legal duties to better contribute to the instruction, supervision and monitoring of tasks and activities in order to provide and maintain positive standards of health, safety and welfare on a construction site.

Course Content

SSSTS training course will enable candidates to understand the problems of the industry, appreciate how health and safety law is structured, identify how their supervisory role fits into that of the manager in controlling site safety, carry out risk assessments and understand the need for method statements, carry out site inductions, toolbox talks and method statement briefings and understand what is meant by proactive and reactive monitoring and appreciate their need.

The main topics covered are:

  • The Health and Safety Legal System
  • Construction Accidents – types, numbers and immediate and underlying causes
  • Awareness of other Regulations
  • Approved Codes of Practice and Guidance Notes
  • Work at Height
  • Demolition Noise and Vibration
  • Occupational Health

Successful candidates will be awarded the CITB Site Supervisors Safety Training Certificate.

Duration

The SSSTS training course lasts two days, 8.30 am – 5 pm daily. This can be delivered as a two day block or one day a week over two week period. The SSSTS certificate lasts for five years, after which the course would need to be retaken in order to renew the certificate and keep the qualification up-to-date.

As part of the fees each candidate will receive Construction Skills GE706 – Site Safety Simplified,  currently retailing at £26.00, and the GT 700 – Tool Box Talks book also currently retailing at £26.00, and certification at £35.

A Polite Notice

It pays to be selective when booking training courses because not all training providers are what they appear to be. When booking a SSSTS Course you need to feel assured that your training provider is fully accredited to provide that training and is not then going to sub-contract the work. Lighthouse Safety Training are fully accredited by CITB-ConstructionSkills to provide the SSSTS course and proof of that accreditation can be seen at our accreditation page.
